Formerly used to winter sheep, this granite steading in Aberdeenshire has been sensitively converted into a workspace and office, including a wet room and kitchen to offer functional flexibility — allowing the space to also be used as guest accommodation.

Set into the hillside, once the dilapidated first floor structure and roof was removed, a waterproof internal block skin was built before finishes of parkerised mild steel, maritime pine boards and lime pointed granite.

Highly insulated and slate roofed, the studio is heated with a wood-burning stove.

The former entrance to the steading is fitted with a single pane of energy efficient double glazing, with a new entrance formed in the adjacent granite wall.
