Situated on the banks of the River Clunie, the building is the largest in the village and commands a majestic presence.

This ambitious four year restoration mixed the owners admiration of contemporary art, design and their reverence for the hotel’s heritage.

To reflect their sharp sense of aesthetic, a fine balance has been struck between old and new — where quality and detail are the common thread.

Tor Contracting, working in collaboration with Moxon Architects and Edinburgh-based quantity surveyors, Cromar Brooks, undertook the role of Construction Manager for the project — fulfilling the function of Principal Contractor, responsible for day to day operation of the site, Health & Safety and the letting of individual trade contracts.

Tor were also responsible for the construction of the basement and new build components of the project, as well as specialist joinery finishes and restoration work throughout the hotel.

Sustainability is key to the hotel’s longevity and the use of locally-sourced materials — such as salvaged granite, locally felled trees for the courtyard columns and Scottish-grown larch cladding — reflect this throughout the building.

Using these materials and drawing on the expert knowledge of local specialists, as diverse as stone masons, saw millers and slaters, Tor Contracting were uniquely placed to deliver a project like no other — where provenance and attention to detail have resulted in five star hotel worthy of its international acclaim.
